Carla’s journey with DekBoard began working in customer service for both DekBoard and Kestrel, where she discovered her passion for supporting customers and found her niche. Thanks to her hard work and positive feedback from colleagues and customers, Carla now plays a pivotal role as DekBoard’s Support Administrator.
What made you decide to work at DekBoard?
In my previous customer service role I worked for both DekBoard and Kestrel. Over time I became more interested in the DekBoard brand and discovered my niche. I soon became solely focused on DekBoard, allowing me to develop my knowledge and experience further. This hard work paid off and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to develop my career further as DekBoard’s Support Administrator, following positive feedback from internal stakeholders and more importantly, the DekBoard customers I dealt with.
What do you enjoy about working at DekBoard?
I love working with customers and helping in any way I can. Building strong business relationships with them is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I enjoy sharing a laugh, and ensuring their experience with us is as smooth as possible.
It’s exciting to witness the creativity of our customers, especially our Authorised Installer Network, and see them use our products to create beautifully designed decking systems.
My colleagues also play a big role in making my job enjoyable. I love diving into the behind-the-scenes work, investigating issues, and providing clear answers. There’s always something new to learn, and I thrive on that!
What does your role involve or what could a typical day at DekBoard look like for you?
As this is still a relatively new role to me, I’m still working out what my ‘typical’ day looks like. My main daily duties consist of placing orders, dealing with enquiries efficiently, communicating with customers regarding their orders/deliveries and liaising with other departments within the business.
I monitor the marketing literature stock, get involved in production queries and assist with administration tasks. I‘m still learning new skills, processes and parts of my daily role.
How do you achieve success in your role at DekBoard?
Working hard, being willing to learn and getting 100% involved in anything that is passed to me. I’ve tried to show my interest in the business and strived to do every bit of work to the best of my ability. I feel that has now paid off and will continue to do so as our product range develops and expands.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My favourite thing is to spend quality time with my little family – my daughter Nancie, my Fiancé Oli and our dog Geoff. Most of my spare time is dedicated to them as they are the most important people to me as well as our immediate family- family is extremely important to me. I also enjoy seeing my best friends when all of our schedules (very rarely) align. I love a good escape room, a nice social drink and I love to eat good food.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
‘Don’t worry about the things that you can’t control- act on the things that you can. Good and bad things happen in life, you just have to keep living and not stress over what you can’t control – it’s a waste of time.’
