At DekBoard we take pride in our talented team, and we’re excited to introduce Nick, our new Business Development Manager.

What made you decide to work for DekBoard?

I joined DekBoard after a conversation with Naomi Grierson, who made me feel valued from the very first call. Her enthusiasm and the positive discussions I had with M.D. Mark Cartwright reinforced that sense of trust and appreciation. When I toured the factory, I was impressed by the professionalism, resources, and investment in growth and sustainability.

What do you enjoy about working at DekBoard?

From day one, my colleagues at DekBoard have been incredibly professional, friendly, and supportive. I’ve felt truly empowered and trusted in my role, with the freedom to progress at a sensible pace. The support I’ve received has made my transition smooth and enjoyable. Plus, having a former colleague at DekBoard has been a great bonus—it meant I had a familiar and friendly connection from the very start.

What does your role involve, or what could a typical day look like for you?

As a Business Development Manager, my role is all about building strong relationships with park owners, managers, and administrators—essentially, anyone involved in decking decisions. I maintain a consistent presence by visiting large parks weekly, ensuring reliability and trust in the DekBoard brand.

With a problem-solving mindset, I focus on providing excellent service, whether that’s quoting for new decks, addressing any remedial issues, or simply being available to help wherever needed. Additionally, I’m always on the lookout for new business opportunities, proactively visiting planned locations and making spontaneous stops at parks I pass along the way—leaving no stone unturned

How do you achieve success in your role at DekBoard?

Success in my role at DekBoard comes from delivering both exceptional sales and service. I firmly believe that actions speak louder than words. That is why regular park visits are crucial—not only do they keep DekBoard top of mind for decision-makers, but they also allow me to identify new opportunities firsthand.

Responsiveness is another key factor. If a park requests a price list or information, I make sure to respond quickly and professionally, reinforcing our reliability and commitment to excellent service.

Building and maintaining strong relationships is at the heart of what I do. Being reliable, honest, and consistent fosters trust, which is essential in this industry. I also constantly ask myself, ‘How can DekBoard improve this environment?’—always looking for new ways to add value to the parks we work with.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I’m a big football fan and follow Hereford FC, catching games whenever I can or tuning in online if I can’t make it.

I love reading, especially autobiographies of actors and sportspeople, as well as thrillers. I’m a big fan of cinema and theatre, particularly anything in the mystery genre. James Bond stories and films are a favourite of mine, and I can never resist a good Agatha Christie or classic whodunnit!

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Respect everyone in the world of work that you meet because you never know when you will meet them again in the future.
